After winter break

So my classes will finish properties of matter before the break starts so that when we come back we can start fresh on the chapter about thermal energy. While looking around the net for some activities to do for this topic I came across this website http://www.misterteacher.com/science/thermalenergy.html
It has some lessons and activities for SMARTboards that can be used. I might have to take a look back at this one later to see if it fits into what I want to teach. If anyone has any other ideas feel free to share them.

Density Lab

So after finishing simple machines we move on to properties of matter. We just finished talking about density and why things sink or float in liquids. I thought it would be fun to have the students preform a lab were they calculate the density of objects to determine if they think they will sink or float in water. To find out if they are correct they will put the objects in water. I plan on having this lab ready and completed before winter break. I just have to gather all the materials.

So heres what im teaching

So I am teaching 6th grade science. I am also teaching math but that is only temporary. My classes just finished up simple machines and I found a really cool online to have them play on the smart board. The game is kind of like a photo hunt with simple machines hidden through out a room of a house. Once a simple machine is found it will ask a few questions about it and give a description of it. I had the whole class play the game on the smart board and it worked really well. Here is the link to the site... http://www.edheads.org/activities/simple-Machines/. This site has a few other activities and a virtual knee surgery
